Great Strides School
Great Strides School is a division of Great Strides Rehabilitation. We are a private school providing individualized education using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy in an educational setting. We believe in establishing an environment that allows learning opportunities throughout every aspect of a child’s school day. We also believe that all children have the right to an effective education that rests on a foundation of solid research and is monitored and evaluated on an ongoing and systematic basis
Our School Staff
Our employees are made up of a variety of highly trained and educated individuals with various experiences working with individuals with special needs in a variety of settings. We encourage all staff to pursue their qualifications as a certified behavior analyst. Great Strides School Staff consists of four levels of qualified individuals:
A pediatric BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) therapist is a professional who works with children to help them develop appropriate behaviors and social skills. BCBA therapists specialize in applied behavior analysis, a therapeutic approach that focuses on understanding and modifying behavior. This is a certification granted to individuals who have met specific education and experience requirements and have passed an examination. Click here to learn about the certification process.
A pediatric Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) is also a professional who works with children, but they have a slightly different level of certification compared to a BCBA. This is a certification granted to individuals who have completed specific educational requirements and supervised practical experience, and who have passed the BCaBA examination. While BCaBAs have a bit less training and responsibility compared to BCBA therapists, they are still skilled in applying behavior analysis principles to help individuals, including children. Click here to learn more about their certification.
A certified teacher is an educator who has completed the necessary educational and training requirements to obtain a teaching certificate or license from the state of Florida. All of our certified teachers work closely with our BCBA staff to learn more about teaching methods for children with special needs.
A pediatric Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a professional who works with children under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to implement behavior analysis interventions. The RBT is a credential offered by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). To become an RBT, individuals must complete specific training, pass an exam, and meet other requirements. The RBT works under the supervision of a BCBA or BCaBA to deliver behavior analysis services. They play a crucial role in helping children develop positive behaviors and skills while working on reducing challenging behaviors.
A Typical Day
Our school maintains small classroom sizes with low student-to-teacher ratios which may range from 3:1 to 5:1 instruction. In addition, many of our children benefit from on one support within the classroom from behavior therapists to help each child actively participate throughout the day. Classrooms are assigned based on age, ability level, and goals being addressed. The school day combines functional academics, group learning, and individualized instruction. We utilize various types of curricula selected by our certified teachers to be appropriate for specific learning groups. We have monthly field trips, regular community outings, and holiday-themed events.
